Telephone interviews are usually done at the initial stage of the interview process to understand the candidate and filter them if there are too many applications for the particular job opening. Use the below tips to ensure that you are ready and super confident to attend the telephonic round of interview.

1) Choose the best place to attend the call - always make sure that you are in a quiet place to attend the interview call so that you won't be disturbed by the surrounding environment. Choose a comfortable table and chair where you can lay your papers and documents to refer to in the interview. Avoid the cluttered area as it can make you confused during the interview process.

Generally don't take the interview calls in your office hours and office premises as it can make you nervous that someone might be watching you. One should remember to get rid of all the distractions and be in a quiet place. If you suddenly get the call from the interviewer then ask the interviewer for a moment to organise yourself for the interview.

2) Keep the necessary information ready for the interview: Keeping a pen and paper helps in noting down important points. Keep the information ready such as company information, questions to ask and interview answer notes so that you don't stumble in the call.

3) Reschedule the interview if you get the call at an awkward time: We don't know when we receive the interview calls, but if we get one such call at a difficult moment - during office hours or during the meeting, then we should definitely reschedule it. Tell the interviewer that you are stuck up with some work in your present job and suggest a possible time for a callback. Instead of attending a call at an awkward moment and not giving the best, it's better to reschedule a call.

4) Be prepared for common phone interview questions: Preparing for common questions asked during a phone interview will make you confident in the interview process. Prepare some notes if you want to refer during the interview such as facts and sales figures. The main advantage of the telephonic interview is that you can easily refer to your presentation notes as nobody will be watching you.

5) How to communicate in the telephone interview: Be very crisp and clear in your voice. Be in a ventilated room so that you don't feel suffocated during the call. According to the experts standing up during the phone interview makes a candidate more confident, however, this depends on your comfort. If you are sitting on a chair then keep the posture straight and slumping on a chair can make you more casual and lazy in your talks. Also, don't walk around during the call as it causes breathlessness and may take away the authority of your voice.

6) Speak clearly and Avoid YES and NO answers: Speaking clearly and slowly will help in answering the questions effectively. If you are in hurry to answer then you might miss some crucial information that you want to communicate to the interviewer. Listen carefully by avoiding any interruption and when the interviewer has finished, then you give a few seconds pause before answering the interviewer. Give yourself time to collect and organise your thoughts before answering.

7) Closing the Call: End the interview with a good question for the interviewer so that you sound interesting. Reinforce your interest in the company and job position. Don't discuss salary as it is an initial stage, if the interviewer asks you this question then you can say it is negotiable and will accept the salary as per the industry standards. You can always ask the interviewer about the timeline of the next round of interview. Immediately after the interview send the thank you message by text or through the mail.
